SLR digital cameras - what to ask before you buy
9. What other features are available in a digital SLR camera?
- Continuous shooting which allows you to take multiple pix of the an image then choose the best one.
- Image stabilisation - helps reduce camera shake for zoom or low light photos. Optical stabilisation is the best type. Mechanical and electronic image stabilisation are less effective, but may be better than nothing.
- Manual focusing - for when auto focus selects the wrong area for focusing.
- Aperture adjustment - to control the depth of field (how much of the photot is in focus)..
- White balance - most of the time the camera will automatically make allowances for the kind of light in the photo (fluorescent, natural daylight, incandescent etc.) but if required you can over-ride this.
- ISO speed selection - this enables you to adjust the 'speed' of your camera to better suit fast moving objects or low light conditions.
- Direct printing - allows you to plug your camera directly into a printer via USB cable and print your photos without connnecting to a computer.
- Video output so that you can play back your photos on your television.
- Separate flash attachment (apart from the 'built in' one) which means you can change the angle of illumination of your subject easily.
