Televisions - flat screen - what to ask before you buy

3. What is 'burn-in' on a flat screen tv?

Plasma tvs can suffer from 'burn-in' which describes the fact that if a particular image is left onscreen for a long time, it may not disappear completely when the screen changes. It applies to things that don't change much (like tv station id logos) or a movie or game left on 'pause' for an extended period. However it is becoming less of an issue now as new tvs are designed to reduce this effect. Reducing the contrast and brightness can also help reduce burn-in.

LCDs don't suffer from 'burn-in'.
